摘要:Paraffin (PA), a phase change material (PCM), offers excellent thermal properties but is hindered by its flammability. In this study, a ternary mixture of expanded graphite (EG), epoxy resin (ER), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) was incorporated into molten PA to create composite PCMs that retain their shape. The composite showed increased surface compactness and improved mechanical properties, with ER and HDPE enhancing elongation at break. Cone-calorimeter tests revealed a significant reduction in smoke production and a peak heat release rate (pHRR) decrease of up to 86.6%. Despite these improvements, the ternary mix did not achieve a UL-94 V rating but reached UL94-V2 after adding EG and ER to sample S1. The combined actions of EG, ER, and HDPE created a physical barrier in the condensed phase, especially with 15-20wt% HDPE, enhancing flame retardancy. This study provides a comprehensive approach to improving the mechanical and flameretardant properties of form-stable composite PCMs.
